Welcome to the Music & Power Awards!
The Music & Power Awards celebrate the timeless legacy of Black music and its cultural impact on the world. Co-founded by Shana Melius and Norman "Storm" Bell with event committee members Richera Jones, Tiffani Hilton, Isis Harris, and James Ellis, this prestigious event honors the artists, industry leaders, and trailblazers who have shaped the music industry and empowered communities through their talents. In partnership with NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, NYC Councilman Kevin Riley, NYC Councilwoman Nantasha Williams, and NYC Councilwoman Althea Stevens, this event highlights the pivotal role of music in social change and empowerment.
Each year, the Music & Power Awards coincides with the celebration of Black Music Month, a tradition that was started by Kenny Gamble in 1979. Black Music Month serves as a time to recognize the rich history, artistry, and influence of Black musicians who have transcended genres and made a lasting impact on music worldwide.
The Impact of Music on Culture and Community
Black music has always been a powerful force in shaping not only the entertainment industry but also the political, social, and cultural fabric of society. From jazz, blues, and soul to hip hop, R&B, and gospel, Black artists have led the charge in creating and reshaping genres that have influenced generations across the globe.
This year we are partnered with Pelle Pelle for our signature "POL Celebrity Golf Event".
